Northumbria University Islamic Society [NIS] - in association with the Islamic Diversity Centre Newcastle [IDC] - are pleased to have organised a series of events for Northumbria University Diversity Week 2008. In light of its continuous development, the Islamic Society have arranged such events in order to promote a proper view of Muslims and Islam both in and outside the University.

This is a free event and will give you the opportunity to find out more about Islam and ask YOUR questions YOU feel need answering.

Guest Speakers:

Khalid Yaseen [USA]:
The Purpose of Life [The Islamic Perspective]
Venue: Student's Union Building, First Floor - 'Venue'
Date : Mon, 4th February 2008
Time: 6.00pm-8.30pm (including question and answer session)

Why are we here and where are we going? Internationally renowned speaker Khalid Yasin is flying in from New York especially to come to our Diversity Week main event, to try and shed some light on these questions with an explanation of the Muslim faith. The event is aimed at non-Muslims and Muslims alike with a chance to ask questions to the speaker.

Refreshments will be provided at the talk, please feel free to remain back after the talk, to witness the prayers.

Abdur Raheem Green [UK]:
Islam: The Misunderstood Religion

Venue: Student's Union Building, First Floor -'Venue'
Date : Thur, 7th February 2008
Time: 5.00pm-7.30pm (including question and answer session)

Islam is the fastest growing, but also one of the most misunderstood religions in the world. Experienced speaker A.R. Green explains the major concepts and beliefs of Islam in order to clarify some of the myths and realities of the Muslim way of life and answer questions posed.

Abu Imraan [Rus]:
Islam Vs. Terrorism

Venue: Student's Union Building, First Floor -‘Venue’.
Date : Fri, 8th February 2008
Time: 6.30pm-8.30pm (including question and answer session)

Islam has become synonymous with terrorism in certain parts of the British media in recent years. Abu Imraan the founder and director of Al-Burhaan Institute, Leicester, will be taking it back to basics by explaining why this distortion has come to pass and will be examining the issues surrounding this topic.

Refreshments will be provided at the talk .

Some of the topics that will be covered include: What is Islam? Who are the Muslims? Can Muslims live in the UK peacefully? Does Islam teach terrorism? What Muslims can contribute to British Society and much more.

There will be refreshments and free literature available.

All Presentations will be held in the Students Union Building, First Floor - 'Venue'. Note: The Building is numbered 8 on the Map - See Below.

New Prayer Room - Update

As-Salaamu Alaykum WaRahmatullah,

Slight change of plan - the New Prayer Room will now open on Monday, 28th of January.. Last Jumuah [at the current Prayer Room], will be held on Friday, 25th of January.

The New Prayer Room will be restricted by Swipe Card Entry [Library Card].

Please Cross-check the list of Users [currently granted Access] - available on the Prayer Room Notice Board. If your name is not on the List, please leave your University email address with the NIS Committee asap, so that we can arrange access permissions [on your behalf] with the University - prior to the move.
